it certainly isn’t non-partisan.Ĭitizens’ United has been around since 1988. It’s not “citizens” as the term would conjure up the image of neighbors banning together. Citizens United is actually another group engaged in the business of pushing influence and a political agenda. Most people think Citizens United is nothing more than the name of a legal decision that permits unlimited third-party political giving to Political Action Committees. The media uses its power to add luster and credibility to CREW and other leftist groups, but it does not treat all such politically motivated groups the same.Ĭompare CREW for example, to Citizens United. CREW is not a legitimate, non-partisan ethics think tank. When mainstream media polishes that veneer, it only adds to the power of the group by bolstering its appearance of legitimacy. The power of a front group is its veneer of legitimacy. The treatment media have given CREW in no way resembles the treatment … or disdain … the media often heaps on other politically motivated and dark-money funded organizations. The media routinely interviews and holds CREW members and supporters out as non-partisan experts on outlets from cable, to public radio, to major news networks. The “CREW” crew deserves a bit of strict scrutiny because the media treats them like they are both non-partisan and bi-partisan. None of this is terribly huge news inside beltway circles. That sure sounds great, except for the part where they are used BY moneyed interest to both influence political and government policy. See the “citizens” funding CREW.ĬREW purports to be a nonprofit organization that “uses aggressive legal action, in-depth research, and bold communications to reduce the influence of money in politics and help foster a government that is ethical and accountable.” That doesn’t make them illegal it just makes their whole shtick suspect.ĬREW is a left-wing front group used by radical, left-wing, political interests mostly to attack and destroy the big money interest of another party, group, or candidate. Huge, high money donors with specific, defined, political motives and agenda back these types of groups. These types of groups are astroturf groups. They are not grassroots movements of everyday citizens working tirelessly for a cause or effort.ĬREW’s roots are not grass … but they are green. In fact, most organizations that begin with “Citizens” are not who they purport to be. These days, it’s easy to find an eminence front … often fueled instead by partisan zealotry.Ĭitizens for Responsible and Ethics in Washington (CREW) is an eminence front. The term, “eminence front” is more broadly about people who use bling, power, name-dropping, and all the false trappings of a con to put on a front that they are someone different and better than they really are. Of course, that Who song was purportedly about a drug fueled party and the phonies who attend, dressed to kill, wearing bling, and hiding their true identities as they run from reality. It’s a put on … as The Who famously sang. It’s a put on, it’s a put on, it’s a put on Hey CREW … “Come … and … join … the … party … dressed to kill.
